Who is this Mrs. Backer? Where can I find her?
Backer's Courses
Me in a Nut Shell:
First you should know that I was born and raised in Illinois; the summer before my freshman year, my parents relocated us to Wisconsin. I attended Westosha-Central High School and graduated in 2000. It never occurred to me that I would end up teaching at my alma mater, but I did for seven years from 2006 to 2013.
So how did I end up in Arizona?
Well, I knew that I wanted to move out west so I convinced UW-Parkside to let me student teach in Arizona. It was during that time that I was hired by Mesa Public Schools. I started my career teaching 7th grade general math at Stapley Junior High.
Then my mom "brain-washed" me and I ended up back in Wisconsin.
As for Arizona, I absolutely love the desert. Some say it's too hot, but it's a dry heat. I prefer 110 degree temps to 80s with 80% humidity. I also HATE winter and it doesn't care for me so much, either. So after seven years of, what I consider to be: torture, I declared that I was moving back to Arizona & I did in 2013.
You should know that I'm a bit OCD. I like things neat and tidy and I'm extremely organized and...well...you'll see. I also don't like chocolate...people find that hard to believe. I really don't eat any type of sweets--candy, cake, cookies, ice cream...
A Little More About Me
I was born and raised in Illinois, just over the border in Lake Villa, Spring Grove, and Fox Lake. My wonderful parents made the move to Wisconsin the summer before I started high school. If that wasn't hard enough, I had to make this transition in a different state where I knew no one. Thank you mom and dad.
You may be thinking, does that mean she's a Cubs fan and/or a Bears fan??? Well, "Go Cubs Go" I even named my Westie Wrigley. I was raised to support da Bears, but I'm not a football fan...I'm a hockey girl - Go Blackhawks!
I played floor hockey - from 5th to 8th grade - and spent a lot of time in the penalty box for slamming girls into walls. I was just playing the game, ref.
Hmmm...what else? I'm an aspiring screenwriter, so if you have any Hollywood connections, help me out. I also paint, quilt and do, what I call, "green art." I have a Masters Degree in Education.
(Check out my "Professional Page" for more information.)
I think that's enough for now. If there's anything you'd like to know, ask.
